Step Up to The Challenge

Assalamualaikum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatahu,

I came across this organisation called Al-Muhsinaat through their “Muslim Student Handbook” advertisement on net. These handbooks were distributed free to anyone who ordered them from anywhere in the world, subhanAllah.  This was done by gathering funds for the shipping charges, which I am incredibly grateful to all the muslim brothers and sisters who contributed for the same. May Allah bless them all and the organisation for their efforts.

Interacting during that time with this organisation was indeed a pleasure. Any enquiries were adhered to as early as possible and in the most polite manner. When I received the books the quality was absolutely great, mashaAllah and everyone my cousin and I gave the copies to loved it, not just for the quality but also the content of the book, alhumdulillah!

The same organisation has now started a new project called The New Life Project. Here are the details on the Ramadan Challenge that I received via mail for this project –

“The believers are like one body”

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “The Faithful are to one another like [parts of] a building – each part strengthening the others” and “Every Muslim is a brother to a Muslim, neither wronging him nor allowing him to be wronged. And if anyone helps his brother in need, Allah will help him in his own need; and if anyone removes a calamity from [another] Muslim, Allah will remove from him some of the calamities of the Day of Resurrection; and if anyone shields [another] Muslim from disgrace, Allah will shield him from the disgrace on the Day of Resurrection.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim, on the authority of `Abd Allah ibn `Umar]

In the hectic life of this era, where we are forever running from one place to another, from one job to another, from one goal to another, from one dream to another… we hardly get enough time to think of what is happening around us. Or sometimes it so happens that even though we know about what is happening around the world -be it the good, the bad the ugly, we care less to do something about it. We are SO engrossed in OUR family, OUR kids, OUR job, OUR happiness, OUR problems… OUR life that we forget that there is someone else out there who is in so much more pain than us. Why have we become so selfish and self indulgent that we have NO time whatsoever to think, leave alone care for anything else that’s happening around us; We read about it and forget …no time even to make dua neither for the sake of OUR Ummah – The Ummah of Muhammad (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) nor for the sake of Humanity. (nauthubillah)

The Messenger of Allah (saw) also said, “The believers, in their love, mutual kindness, and close ties, are like one body; when any part complains, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.” [Muslim], “The faithful are like one man: if his eyes suffers, his whole body suffers.” [Muslim]

Are we SO busy that we can’t even take time to reflect at how a part of our Ummah is suffering at hands of the oppressor? Are we SO engrossed in our lives that we can’t even give few minutes of our time to stop and make dua for the Syrians?

This article was a wake up call (to self first) to slow down, to reflect and to do atleast that little bit which I can and you can do for the sake of Allah, for the betterment of everyone around and in order that the I may not be called to account for not raising any awareness about it on the day of judgement. And this awakening happened because of my dear sister Nasmira’s article. My words may or may not have made sense of what I was talking about, but it was the least I could do other than making dua for our Ummah(for the Syrians to be specific); so I leave you with her article “Silence: A Form of Acceptance” with the hope that her words do wake u up too to do the least that we can.

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu.

Silence:A Form of Acceptance – By Nasmira Firdous

No words, no amount of tears can do justice to what’s happening in Syria. This silence of mine is a silent form of acceptance and approval to what’s happening. The least I can do is speak out, but against whom and do what, many would ask. Most of us are probably living continents apart and feel helpless. While the world remains a mute spectator, the silence of the believer is an even bitter pill to swallow.

What makes anyone think that I would not be held accountable for what’s happening? Yet what can I do? I tell you of a Continue reading

Aisha found safe, alhumdulillah

Assalamualaikum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatahu,

In a previous post I had mentioned about this sister, Aisha Khan, who had gone missing since friday, December 16th 2011.

Alhumdulillah, she has been found safe.

There have been lost of speculations and comments on the reason she left etc etc. which is really sad.

I feel this incedent in itself was a test for all of us. Allah(SWT) wanted to see how we as an ummah would come together for this purpose. Subhanallah everyone has been doing everything they could to find her. Those of us in different parts of the world made a difference in our own small way by praying for her and her family (and alhumdulillah, her father also remembered those who prayed for her in his dua in tahajjud at the time of hardship when he prayed for his daughter’s safe return).

We didnt know her, we have never met her but for us she was a sister in faith.. and the others(non-muslims who prayed for her) did it for the sake of humanity, MashaAllah. It was indeed ecstatic to see the love we showed for each other.

Also, looking at it from another perspective, it was our chance to gain a few good deeds. Especially for her family and friends, the near and dear ones, who went through a traumatic situation, it was a way of expiating some of their sins, like the hadith says..

Narrated Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah’s Apostle (SAWS) said, “No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.” [ sahih bukhari ]

or may be it was a medium through which Allah helped them strengthen their relationship and trust in Him more. SubhanAllah.

I’m sure all of us were very scared for her. We prayed for her SAFE return, and alhumdulillah, our prayers were answered. Period. What happened, why, how.. all these questions are just a curiosity that our human brain processes, which I believe is not necessary should be answered! We served our role in this situation in the best manner we could, by Allah’s will. Our test has ended and Alhumdulillah, she’s safe, isn’t that what we asked for? That she returns home to her parents and family safe and unharmed, we got that, alhumdulillah. So let’s just be happy with that.

Everything else, well, I would say that’s between Aisha, her family and Allah(SWT). Who are we to judge?

-Potential Hijabi

P.S. As a matter of fact, our reaction to her return would also be a test. So, let’s make sure we react to it in a manner that is pleasing to Allah(SWT), InshaAllah.

Tik Tok – 5 before 5!!

Stand up for Irvine 11

The Irvine 11 are a group of students from the University of California–Irvine who used their freedom of speech to protest during a speech by the Israeli Ambassador to the US. They each stood up and made a statement about human rights which lasted a few seconds. As a result they are facing CRIMINAL CHARGES! Yup, that’s right! This is NOT the twilight zone! This is real and it’s really happening in front of our eyes! And their verdict comes out today!

-Yasmin Mogahed

On February 8, 2010, in the immediate the aftermath of Operation Cast Lead where more than 1,400 Gazans were massacred, 11 students were arrested after peacefully protesting Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren’s speech at the University of California, Irvine. Ten of the 11 students are currently facing a criminal trial, which ends with closing arguments this Monday, September 19th. If these brothers were guilty of anything, it was that they stood for justice and spoke truth to power. They stood up, one by one, and declared statements such as: “Propagating murder is not an expression of free speech,” and “You, sir, are a war criminal.” These students could face up to 6 months to 1 year in jail for each misdemeanor against them.

Sometimes Allah allows us to witness events in our life that are intended to truly shake us, wake us up and inspire us. They act as signs from Allah (subhanahu wa ta`la – Exalted is He). I truly feel what has happened with the Irvine 11 is one of those events. Wa Allahu a`lam (and Allah knows best).

Tomorrow will be the closing statements in the Irvine 11 trial. It is up to each and every one of us to stand with Truth. The following suggestions have been made about how we can respond. Please post on your facebook, twitter, and spread the word widely. See below:

  1. Fasting: It’s Monday and it’s sunnah to fast! Imagine if everyone in solidarity fasts!
  2. Give charity and make du`a’ (supplication): Imagine if everyone in solidarity gives $10 charity to Palestine!
  3. Pray 4 rak`at (units of prayer) in the morning: “Son of Adam  pray 4 rak’at for me in the begining of the day, I will suffice you till the end of it”
  4. Be in du`a’ and thikr (remembrance) during the hearings: May Allah open the heart of the Jury/Judge to see the truth and May Allah make us steadfast.
  5. The `Ibadat of Kifaya (extra forms of worship): Praying 4 rak`at in the beging of the day, the athkar of the morning, the thikr before leaving the house, etc.

If you cannot be present physically, be sure to be present and connected spiritually. The trial on Monday starts at 9:00am PST so wherever you are, please take time out around 9:00 am to pray and make du`a’ for the case, while knowing that yourdu`a’ could have a greater effect than the lawyer’s arguments!

Oh Allah, You have said, “O you who believe! if you help (the cause of) Allah, He will help you and make firm your feet” (47:7). Oh Allah, so help the Irvine 11 today and make their feet firm. Whoever You aid, none can overpower. Whoever You overpower, none can aid. You are the Living who does not die. We ask You. We seek Your help and we put our full trust in You. Ameen ya Rabb al `alameen (the Lord of the Worlds).

For more information about the case, please read SuhaibWebb.com’s previous article about the Irvine 11 and visit their website at www.Irvine11.com.
